The Origin of Cultured Pearls - Japan 2024

Let's do this! Let's travel to Japan, the birthplace of cultured pearls.

We will travel to Japan October 4 through October 12, 2024

In 1895, Mikimoto successfully cultured his very first pearl. It would change the trajectory of the pearl industry forever and we will go see where is all began!! I can't wait!

October 4th we will travel from Atlanta to Tokyo, Japan. After a little exploring time in Tokyo, we will head south! Kyoto is on the shores of Lake Biwa, this is where many pearl farms tried their hand at freshwater Japanese pearls. 

But, the main attraction is the saltwatwer pearls in Ago Bay. We will visit an akoya pearl farm there.

We will also visit Mikimoto Pearl Island where we will see a demostration of pearl diving by the local Ama divers, we will visit the Mikimoto museum and see where it all began.

I absolutely adore the Ama divers. They are Japanese free divers, all women, who are fisherwomen. Mikimoto recruited them to harvest wild oysters for pearl implantation. 

On this trip we will also have a chance to have lunch with these traditional divers and eat the seafood they catch from the sea.

Our trips are always full of adventure and fun and we can add additional sites to our itinerary! But, I wanted you to start planning and saving for this grand adventure.

We will leave the US on Friday, October 4th, arriving on the 5th. We will spend 7 nights and return home either Saturday  the 12th. II want to make sure we have time for everything!!! Some folks have elected to return the 13th

All flights leave from Atlanta. if you prefer to arrange your own flight, no problem! We will deduct $1500 from the cost of the trip! Some folks have chosen to do this so they can fly first class. I can give you more details on their flights and prices!

The trip price of $5900 includes all flights, accommodations and entrance into the pearl farm and Mikimoto Pearl Island. $4400 if you book your own flight! You will be responsible for meals and additional sites, train travel plus your pearl purchases!!

The price is $5900 per person, double occupancy. This is dependent upon fight prices therefore may be subject to fluctuation after April 1, 2024.

If you are a single traveler we will do our best to accommodate you in a single or introduce you to a possible travel companion.

This trip does require a $500 non refundable deposit to secure your spot. But, of course, this deposit goes towards your trip. If you decide to sign up after April 1, again there might be price fluctuations due to airline costs.
