Keep it Classy, Queen E!

All About Pearls - Our Pearl Blog, Natural Pearls, The History of Pearls, Women Wearing Pearls

The beloved Queen of England has a uniform, of sorts, which we at The Pearl Girls give a solid thumbs up! It is clear, Queen Elizabeth loves her pearls! And we love that she can always keep it classy!

Three Threes

Notice the three strand necklace? It is one of three of the almost exact same necklaces that she wears in rotation.

Her first triple strand necklace was gifted to her when she was only nine! It was a gift from her grandfather, King George V.

The third triple strand necklace was gifted to her in 1953 by the Emir of Qatar. Now, from what I know about the Middle East, they are serious about natural pearls. The Persian Gulf used to be a major source of natural pearls. Which means, if the Emir is gifting Queen Elizabeth, he would never, ever give her cultured pearls. Some in Qatar believe that cultured pearls are not “real” pearls! This means, I would bet my last dollar that he gifted her with a triple strand natural pearl necklace! Amazing.

Make My Own

And somewhere in between these two gifts, Queen Elizabeth commissioned her own triple strand necklace! According to an article in People Magazine, this is the necklace that she wore in her Coronavirus address to the U.K. on Sunday evening. She paired her triple strand necklace with a diamond and turquoise brooch that King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra gifted to her grandmother, Queen Mary. Way to keep it classy, Queen E!

People magazine went on to say that it was this necklace she wore on her previous addresses to the nation: on the eve of the funeral of Princess Diana in 1997, at her Diamond Jubilee in 2012, upon the death of her mother in 2002 and during the Gulf War in 1991.

Here she is at the Diamond Jubilee in 2012:
